Curvy Long Sweater Vest – Elegance At Any Size

curvy long sweater vest

This long sweater vest has no buttons or zippers, instead has a long binding, so it is easy to make.

It has an A-line shape, so follow the lines of your body

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a long sweater vest pattern in S-XL, which the readers of our newsletter received well. However, upon some consideration, I decided to grade the vest to accommodate larger sizes because it is one of the easiest ways to add warmth and elegance to your wardrobe.

A long sweater vest makes the eye go up and down on a plus-size body rather than side to side, creating the illusion of the person being taller.

Look at the illustration below and see for your selves; the rectangles on the side represent the vest; notice how a vest in a darker color will give the illusion of a more narrow silhouette while the ones in lighter tones (B and E) make them more expansive but still manage to force the eye up and down.

I don't mean to tell you that this vest will only work in a dark color after all; after all, spring is coming, and with it, the opportunity to embrace color and exciting prints.

And if you are still not convinced, a long knitted vest is one of the easiest ways to hide some weight around the midsection when wearing a closed-fitted dress.

Why don’t you have this in smaller sizes?

I am making the vest and have a question. does the front band get hemmed or ends turned in?

Love your patterns and ideas. Just one point. Just because a person is a 2X doesn’t mean they are curvy. They are two different size sets. This vest could work for either, however. I wear a 2X but have no waistline to speak of, therefore bust and hips don’t differ that much from it. Curvy patterns usually have pronounced hip curves. Sometimes I need to alter that out. Just sayin’
