Have You Ever Used a Bag to Wrap a Gift?

We had some friends over for dinner the other night and my friend brought a bottle of wine wrapped nicely in a fabric wine gift bag.  Of course, I had seen this before.  We have a pattern on our site linked below for just that, but it really dawned on me how good an impression that made.  It showed that not only did the guest care about the gift she was giving but also that she really wanted to present it in a memorable way.  Needless to say, it left a fantastic impression not only with me but with our other guests.

A handmade fabric gift bag is a wonderful way to present not only wine but any gift this is worth giving.  I decided to have a look at all the different options for gift bag sewing patterns that are available on the internet today.  As usual, I wanted to share my collection with you below.

These ideas are a great way to use up scraps, as well as some not so favorite fabric in my stash. I have lots of Christmas left over fabric that I am going to use for this years gift giving, instead of having to find boxes and paper to wrap gifts in. Thanks for the ideas!!!

I have been doing thi for over 30 years. Sometimes I do make the bag deliberately as a second gift, a laundry bag for a graduate for example. Our families have loved building up a supply of bags. It means less wrapping at Christmas. My own family likes to repurpose the bags into lunch bags, make-up bags, etc. It is a wonderful way to use scraps!

Fantastic, I wish more people will join the movement of using and reusing!

What a great idea! It’s two gifts in one, because the bag could be used for the recipient for many other things as well.
