Over the years there has been a small handful of times that I've made something and then forgot to actually share it here. How does that happen? Yeah, good question. Sometimes it's because it's seasonal, others I'm hanging onto to see if it will fit into a series.

This one might take the record though - I made it two years ago. Fortunately, when I came across it I still thought it turned out great and wanted to post it. Even better, this is a great idea for Father's Day and it's easy to make!

To make this bag, all you need is cotton fabric, cut in the following sizes:

  • Outer bag - (1) 12 1/2 x 23 1/2"

  • Straps - (2) 2 1/2 x 21"

  • Bag lining - (1) 12 1/2 x 23 1/2"

Supplies for double beer bag

Stitch the two 12 1/2" sides right sides together on the outside piece. Press the seam open.

Sew outer piece together

Center the seam and press the sides. Turn the top edge under 1/2" and press.

Stitch across the bottom. Flatten the bottom corners so the stitching and the crease on the side are lined up. Stitch across the corner, 2" from the tip. Repeat on the other corner.

Stitch across corners

Repeat all steps with the lining.

Fold the 21" strips right sides together and stitch down the long side. Turn right side out and press with the seam centered.

Making handles

Turn the outer bag right side out. Leave the lining so the right side is in, and the wrong side is facing out. Stuff it inside the bag, so the two wrong sides are together. Line up the upper edges and pin.

Slip the ends of the handles in between the layers, 2 1/2" from each side of the bag, with the end into the bag about an inch.

Pin lining inside bag

Stitch around near the top edge of the bag, and again about 1/2" from the edge.

Stitch around top

Lay the bag out flat and find the center. Draw a line with chalk 6" long from the top edge.

Mark center of bag

Stitch along that line. Be sure to back stitch well at the beginning and end.

Stitch down center

That's all there is to it. We have a local shop that can put tap beer into a sealed 32 ounce can (in lieu of a growler), and this will hold two of those easily.

It will also hold two wine bottles, and keep them from clanging into each other. Or one of each!

Once you've gifted it to someone, they can pass it on to the next person as a gift. Or maybe they'll just keep it as their own carrier! 😉
