Sewcialites 3 Beacon Block – free quilt block pattern

Amy Smart is the featured designer this week for the 2026 Sewcialites 3 sew-along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop. Her free block pattern, called Beacon, is officially live and includes instructions for 3-inch, 6-inch, and 12-inch finished sizes. This block can take on so many different looks based on the color and fabric choices — Amy shares a peek at the fabric variations the Fat Quarter Shop community has been making, and her own quilt-along version is just getting underway.

A free block at three different sizes is a gift — you can use Beacon as a sampler, scale it up for a wall hanging, or scatter the small version through scraps you couldn’t bear to throw away.

• Creative Grids 6.5″ x 24.5″ ruler — the workhorse ruler for strip and block cutting
